Blindside (サイトアウト, Saito Auto?, lit. Sight Out) is an ability first featured in Star Ocean: The Last Hope that allows a character to move behind an attacking enemy and surprise them.
Appearances[]
Star Ocean: The Last Hope[]
Blindsides are triggered by pressing and holding the jump command while the player character is targeted. If the character moves away too soon, the enemy will anticipate the blindside and counterattack. If a Blindside is attempted while too far away, the enemy will simply be deterred. Successful blindsides result in an "!?" icon above the inflicted enemy. All attacks while in this status will be critical.
It is possible to double Blindside (ダブルサイトアウト, Daburu Saito Auto?) with a BEAT: Strike level of 9 or greater, avoiding counters.
Star Ocean: Anamnesis[]
The Blindside mechanic was implemented as part of the Talent system, and can be learned via Mastery by Attackers and Defenders. Blindsiding consists of an extended Charge Assault that activates when receiving an enemy's melee attack while on Assault standby—that is, while holding a short-range battle skill button and charging is complete. It allows a character to automatically turn around behind the target.
As the activation condition is only during standby, if the character takes the attack, high-speed movement does not occur even if the charge is completed. Within short range of the target, the player should release the battle skill button while the enemy's cursor is still red. If successful, the damage of the attack received at the time of activation is reduced to 0, but status ailments will still occur. If movement or skill usage are restricted by paralysis or silence, Blindside cannot be activated.
