Story[]

Background[]

In S.D. 753, Fayt was born to Robert and Ryoko Leingod, authorities in the field of Genomorphy from the standpoint of symbological science. His parents, at some point, were part of a team that went to planet Styx and were warned by the Guardian of the Time Gate that the creators of the universe, would punish all life in the galaxy for their knowledge. Heeding this warning, the Leingods began working on three powerful symbological genes alongside space-time theorist Clive Esteed and fellow genomorphist Jessie Traydor. The product of their research were the powers of Destruction, Alteration and Connection.

Engaging in forbidden human experimentation, they encoded these genes into the infants Fayt, Maria and Sophia, respectively. Fayt was given the power of Destruction, giving him the ability to manipulate space surrounding him. Among its uses, it allows him to alter the physical laws of the Eternal Sphere or to apply them to 4D Space.

Anticipating the creators' reprisal, the research team left Moonbase. Jessie Traydor adopted Maria and left for Federation Station #17, whereas Fayt, his parents Robert and Ryoko, and the Esteeds—Clive, Kyoko, Sophia—moved to Earth. The two families remained near each other. Completely unaware of their parents' experiments on them, Fayt and Sophia grew up together, leading normal lives. When Fayt graduated high school, he chose to study in the Symbological Sciences Department of Bachtein Science University.

Vendeeni attacks[]

It seems you're good at physical games, but you still have a ways to go with games that require you to use your brain. I think you should exercise your mind a bit more.
― Robert Leingod to Fayt

Fayt's journey starts during vacation on the Federation-owned planet Hyda IV. While staying at the beach side resort Grantier with his parents and Sophia, Fayt spends most of his time playing video games, much to the chagrin of Sophia. After meeting the up and coming child star, Peppita Rossetti, Fayt manages to convince Sophia to play a game with him. Not long after the game ends, Hyda IV comes under attack by an alien force and the populace is forced to flee to an evacuation facility, separating Fayt and Sophia from Fayt's parents. Once aboard the escape ship, they are attacked again and forced to escape into deep space in escape pods, further separating Fayt from Sophia.

Fayt Blade of Fury

Fayt and Cliff battling Norton.

After drifting through space for a week, Fayt crash lands on the underdeveloped planet Vanguard III. He gets a Simple Sword from the escape pod, and travels through the forests before collapsing in the backwater town of Whipple. Here he is rescued by two orphaned children, Meena and Niklas and learns that the town has been recently terrorized by an extraterrestrial known as Norton. While Fayt is resting he gets to know the two orphans. Then, Meena's Music Box broke. When Fayt goes back to the escape pod to get some equipment to fix it, the escape pod is missing the part required, with other parts along with it.

He assumes that Norton took them, and returns to Whipple. When he returns, he hears around town that Niklas, headed over to Norton's place, suspicious of Fayt being one of Norton's henchmen. Fayt, along with the recently revealed Quark member Cliff, defeat Norton and rescues Niklas from his cells. Cliff urges Fayt to meet his boss and the two leave on his ship, along with Mirage Koas.

While in space, Fayt is attacked once again by the same alien forces, the Vendeeni. The ship makes a crash landing on another underdeveloped planet, Elicoor II. Mirage escapes while Fayt and Cliff are taken prisoner by the Kingdom of Airyglyph before being rescued by the Aquarian spy, Nel Zelpher. Due to their knowledge of superior technology and the wreckage of the ship, they assume the identities of engineers from the technologically advanced Kingdom of Greeton, and are coerced by Nel to help the Kingdom of Aquaria. After witnessing the negative impact the war is having on the people, Fayt decides to help Aquaria complete the Thunder Arrow weapon.

During the final battle of the war, a Vendeeni battleship interferes and opens fire on all parties. Cliff lets slip that they Vendeeni were actually after Fayt the entire time, and in a display of emotion and power, Fayt unleashes a strange blast that disintegrates the ship effortlessly.

Fourth-Dimension War[]

To tell the truth, I find it pretty hard to believe that you're the ultimate weapon that will save the galaxy.
Marietta to Fayt

Fayt eventually discovers that his parents experimented on him and embedded symbols into his genes. Fayt was given the power of Destruction. Upon the awakening of this power, Fayt destroyed this Vendeeni battleship, which was carrying soldiers attempting to abduct him. Fayt's power of Destruction also allows the party to harm the entities within Fourth-Dimensional Space.

Profile[]

Man, what a square! Then again, maybe that's your redeeming feature, huh? Straight as an arrow, just like... well...
― Cliff Fittir comparing Fayt to Maria Traydor

Fayt is an ordinary college student who, throughout the game's narrative, ends up in circumstances beyond his imagination. Separated from his family, he manages to remain fair-minded and proves to be someone of integrity who can't desert a person in trouble. Somewhat somber yet thoughtful of others, he also has an extremely stubborn side.

While he is serious in his university studies, Fayt enjoys physical activity more than studying. During his family vacation to Hyda IV, he is somewhat lazy regarding his college work and takes every opportunity to ignore it, mostly by playing games. He specifically loves sparring on the Battle Simulator, thanks to which he has learned to wield swords; in Anamnesis, at the home screen he states that testing a military-grade simulator is a "dream come true". He has earned an award for his performance at a Universal Basketball competition.

Gameplay[]

The initial playable character of Star Ocean: Till the End of Time, Fayt wields swords and can equip heavy armor and accessories. His battle skills—called Special Arts in other games in the series—reflect his affinity for symbology, with his final skill being a reflection of his gene of Destruction. He has affinity for all four elements (Fire, Earth, Water, Wind) through his skills.

Fayt was also a playable character in Star Ocean: Anamnesis. He had five variants: "Fayt" (Attacker), "Groom Fayt", "SRF Fayt" (both Defenders), "Divine Fayt" (Attacker), and "Idol Fayt" (Sharpshooter). The first three and his last variant made use of one-handed swords, while the Divine Fayt wielded great swords.
