The Last Hope[]

In S.D. 10, Edge Maverick and his crew visit Astral City by advice of Sarah Jerand so as to obtain an antidote for the Stone Sickness that has infected Reimi Saionji. They ask the King of Astral—whose government manages the entirety of the stock of ingredients in Astral—, who gladly acquiesces and instructs them to wait while the remedy is prepared. While waiting, Edge sees a man infiltrate the castle, but is apathetic to him. Afterwards, the party returns before the king, only to learn that the trespasser Edge saw, known as the Black Eagle, has stolen all of the ingredient stock.

Edge thus vows to apprehend him, and dashes towards the Tatroi Colosseum, where Astralian law does not apply. Edge , however, defeats the Black Eagle in battle and recover the stock of supplies. He is thanked for the heroism, and given the remedy to cure Reimi. Upon returning to the inn, the party is surprised to find that Reimi has managed to resist the disease. She then reveals her and Edge's relation to Project Hope. The party decides to rest for another night.

During the evening, Edge leaves the inn and goes to think besides the main plaza, where he is assaulted by three thugs who try to steal his blade, thinking it is the secret behind his prowess against the Black Eagle at the Colosseum. They are all stunned by a symbologist who introduces herself as Myuria Tionysus, and states she is searching for Crowe F. Almedio—Edge and Reimi's childhood friend—so as to avenge her late husband Lucien. She leaves after Edge's promise that he will prove Crowe's innocence. The next morning, the party finds that Sarah has been kidnapped by the same thugs bothering her in Tatroi and head to the Purgatorium to find her.

Star Ocean[]

In S.D. 46, after leaving Tatroi, Roddick Farrence and his friends head to Astral City in search of Millie Chliette and Ronyx J. Kenny. While the party is on their way to the city, a silent Phia Melle attacks two guards for unknown reasons. Shortly afterwards, the party enters town and Phia walks in, accompanied by a squad of Astral Knights, and notices the party's presence.

If Cyuss Warren is in the party, Phia tells him to see himself out once he is done, claiming the knights don't 'like' him anymore; Cyuss retaliates by insulting the corps, but relents when she says he is thus questioning his father, Lias's, leadership. She then gives him a piece of her mind regarding his leaving the Corps despite Lias' endorsement and says she will never forgive him for the betrayal. They decide to spend the night at the inn.

At midnight, Lias is in his bedroom back at the castle when "Phia" attacks him; a soldier discovers her and she flees. They call the guard via bell, and Cyuss—back at the inn—correctly interprets the coded message and tries to get ahead of her. Roddick and Ilia follow suit, and the trio intercepts the impostor. Soon they are joined by the real Phia, and the look-alike reveals her true form. The Darth Widow then flees to the Astral Caves, and the party chases after it.

If Ashlay Bernbeldt is in the party, Phia asks if he remembers her, having last seen each other ten years ago; upon some prodding, he does and asks how Lias is doing. She then gladly guides them all to Lias's Mansion; Lias is happy to see Ashlay, and invites them to stay the night. Privately, Ashlay and Lias catch up, and talk about Cyuss' departure.

During the night, the party is chatting in the guest room, when Ashlay hears the ruckus in Lias' beroom and goes check in on him. They find a wounded Lias laying on the ground, and his attacker, "Phia", flees. They chase after into the Astral Caves; upon finding her, the impostor reveals her true form, Darth Widow, and Ashlay recognizes her to be Demon World assassin.

If Cyuss or Ashlay are not in the party, Roddick and Ilia choose to rest at the inn. After they head bells during the night, they head to the Astral Castle jail and speak to the guard to go inside. They find Phia in jail, accused of attempting to murder her father, Lias Warren. Roddick chooses to break her out, attacking the guard, and Phia joins the party. They chase after the impostor but are unable to catch her; thus, at Tatroi, Phia proposes that they travel to the Purgatorium.

Later, Astral City is attacked by Asmodeus' forces, focusing on killing Lias again. This time, the party defeats Asmodeus strongest minion in the area, the Arachmene.

Gameplay[]

Astral City, making an appearance in the original Star Ocean and its remake as well as in The Last Hope, offers different options in both entries.

In Star Ocean, the city offers three shops in addition to a Skill Guild, and presents a number of different scenarios in relation to the player's party. If Cyuss is in the party, Phia will join the player in the Astral Caves temporarily; if Ashlay is, she doesn't join. In both cases, she may permanently be recruited later in the game. If neither is in the party, the player must break her out of jail, and will join permanently (yet will never acquire her Gods of War SFT skill) if the player chooses to go to the Purgatorium.

In The Last Hope, the city offers three shops by default, plus an unlockable weapon shop. Regarding quests, there are seven available ("Musical Mending", "Locked Out", "The Latest Beauty Fad", "Sore Throat Soother", "No Way Home", "Ogre Battling", and "Rumble in the Caves") and a total of sixteen shop orders for the player to complete.
