Petrification is a recurring status ailment in the Star Ocean series. Characters afflicted with this status turn grey and are unable to move or act, and the status persists until cured. The status also counts as a KO; in other words, Petrified characters do not receive EXP and, if all members are afflicted with this status, the game is over.
Enemies such as Petrigerels are known to cause this status ailment. It can be cured with spells such as Condition Cure; items like Stone Cures and Medicine Bottles; or staying at an inn. Certain armor and accessories, like Amulets of Flexibility and Robes of Deception can prevent this ailment when equipped.
