Unlike the rest of the Featherfolk, who can fly for short periods of time, Sarah is unable to do the same, due to an unknown reason. She possesses a great sense of love and compassion, and often has a motherly attitude to those she comes
across. On Roak, she is eventually kidnapped by an Asmodeus cult and taken to the Purgatorium. The party manages to save her, and Sarah didn't even realize what had happened. She then accompanies the party for the rest of the game, remaining mostly as a supporting character rather than taking the spotlight away from Edge, Reimi and Faize.
In Sarah's ending, which is obtained by Sarah having sufficient AR toward Edge, Sarah is chased by two Lesser Fellpool girls who want to eat her because to them, Sarah looks like a bird. Just as she is about to run off a cliff into a river, she jumps, and the Lesser Fellpool girls attempt to grab her, but fail and fall into the river. Just then, Sarah finally learns how to fly. This also unlocks the Xbox 360 achievement " Sarah's Ending" and is one of the prerequisites to obtaining Crowe's ending.
Like Millie Chliette, Rena Lanford and Sophia Esteed before her, Sarah is the game's most effective healer. She possesses the most powerful healing symbols, supplemented by a full set of buffing spells. She is also an effective attacker with access to Light, Wind and Lightning elemental symbology.
Sarah has the same surname as Erys Jerand and Ioshua Jerand from the first Star Ocean; the in-game dictionary mentions that she is not their mother, but more than likely their aunt through one of her younger brothers.
