- —Zaphkiel after destroying the simulated Wise Men at Fun City
Zaphkiel, also known as Marsilio, is an antagonist and one of the Ten Wise Men in Star Ocean: The Second Story and its remake, Star Ocean: Second Evolution. He loves the battle, and enjoys a good match. Along with Metatron and Jophiel, he is at the bottom of the Ten Wise Men hierarchy. He is entirely designed to engage in direct combat with one or several enemies, something that his reflected by his weapon of choice, a huge sword that can crush many foes at once, and his aggressive and straightforward personality.
Zaphkiel is first met at the top of Eluria Tower along with the other Wise Men, but does not engage the party at that point.
Zaphkiel is only seen later on the first assault of the Nedian forces on Phynal, where he easily defeats them in battle. Seeing that there is no other solution, Mariana distracts Zaphkiel, sacrificing herself so that Claude, Rena, their friends and Nall may escape the fortress.
Later, Metatron, Jophiel and Zaphkiel attack the party in Fun City. While his comrades wreak havoc in the amusement park, Zaphkiel engages the party again, as their first encounter was interrupted. He is then killed by them and their new antimatter weapons.

Zaphkiel is fought twice during the storyline, the first being a must-lose fight.
An average wisemen of 150,000 HP and 15 MP. This battle is pretty simple and straight forward, he isn't very fast and is very easy to stunlock. His Intial Slay move can inflict paralysis, but it seldom happens. Keep him stunlocked and no matter what difficulty mode he'll fall easily and fast.
- In the PSX version Zaphkiel knew Eruption and Growth, but the creators programmed him with 15 MP so these spells were never seen or it's attempted use. In the PSP remake Zaphkiel doesn't know any spells whatsoever but keeps his 15 MP.
